Patterns and Effects (Flowers)
Due to additional content being added into the game, information on this page is frequently updated.
You can help out this wiki by fixing any errors on the page or adding missing information.
Important Note
For newly introduced flowers and patterns, it can take time for the wiki to confirm what is compatible. This wiki adds patterns when they are confirmed by players in the official Discord to allow time for community discovery.
All flowers have a default pattern. Players must fertilize a non-patterned flower for a chance of turning it into a patterned flower. Flowers with a pattern are referred to as rare flowers but do not have a different rarity in the inventory.
About Patterns
A pattern has a 1% chance of appearing when Fertilizer is applied to flowers at any stage.
Fertilizer can even turn freshly-planted
Seeds patterned, and it can still change plants that have previously bloomed. The plant, not just the flower it is currently growing, is what gains the pattern, so the plant will continue to grow patterned flowers after it is plucked. If a seed or sprout is
fertilized and becomes patterned before being dug up with the
Trowel, it will retain its pattern even when turned into a seed packet by the
Trowel.
Therefore, while trying to obtain patterned flowers, the player should fertilize whenever possible for the most opportunities at transforming the plant. Once a plant is patterned, Fertilizer cannot alter its pattern.
Unlike most non-patterned flowers, plucked patterned blossoms cannot be turned into seed packets with the Seed Dispenser. However, patterned blossoms, seedlings, and seed packets can still get turned into
Fertilizer using the
Composter. Patterned plants can also make more patterned plants through certain kinds of breeding.
The default color of all patterns is █ white on all flowers except white flowers, which receive a █ warm pink pattern instead. The color of the pattern is also called the flower's secondary color.
Effects are special patterns that do not have a separate color for their pattern. However, they behave like patterns in every other way.
Uses
Patterned flowers are the only way to transfer colors or patterns between different types of flowers.
- Primary Transfers: breeding colors into other flower types.
- Hybridization: breeding non-default pattern colors.
- Pattern Transfers: breeding patterns into compatible flower types.
To breed all colors into all flower types, the players will need patterned flowers in █ white, █ red, █ yellow, █ sky, █ blue, and █ hot pink. Those colors cannot be produced by mixing other colors.
Patterned flowers, like other flowers, are also usable for crafting several items at the Creation Station. They are required to craft the
Rare Candle and
Tall Rare Candle.
Hybrids
- For specifics of how to breed hybrids, refer to the "Hybridization" section of the "Breeding (Flowers)" page.
Hybrids are patterned flowers with non-default colors. For example, a █ red flower with a █ coral pattern would be a hybrid.
To get hybrid colors, two patterned flowers of the same type and different colors should be bred together. The spawn of two such flowers have a 1% chance of the flower color of one flower becoming the pattern color of the other flower. This does mean a 2% total chance of a hybrid for most color combinations. (That is reduced to 1% if one is a white flower because white is a default pattern color for other flower colors.)
Examples of hybrids include a White & Coral Ombre Penstemum or a
Blue & Yellow Ombre Tulias.
Pattern Transfers
- For specifics of how to breed (transfer) a pattern into another type, refer to the "Pattern Transfers" section of the "Breeding (Flowers)" page. For a chart of transferable patterns, check the "Pattern Chart" on the same page.
If a flower of a certain color with a pattern is bred with a different type of flower with the same flower color, new spawns with both flowers as parents have a 1% chance of being the same type as the second flower but with the first flower's pattern ― but only if the second flower type is compatible with the pattern.
Not all flowers are compatible with all flower types. So far, it appears that only the ombre pattern and any effects are compatible with all flower types.

Patterns
Ombre
The Ombre Pattern is the default pattern for regional (non-event) flowers with the exception of the extremophiles (such as Frostfeathers).
Known Bug
The colors of trim Pinwheels are possibly reversed from what they should be. This may be changed in the future.
