Hello Kitty Island Adventure was released on January 30, 2025 on Nintendo Switch.
Most updates come out on Apple Arcade first, but all content will come to all platforms eventually. Outside of the differences in update speeds and current content availability, Sunblink is "contractually required to keep the experience the same across platforms," according to a statement from the dev team.

Can’t wait? Watch the trailer below, and dive in on Nintendo Switch 2! Happy adventuring, Friends~
Hi everyone — we wanted to clarify the situation around the Switch1 – Switch2 multiplayer compatibility, since we didn’t communicate this as clearly as we should have earlier. This has been a complex issue with several contributing factors, and we want to walk you through what happened.
Earlier this year, we began exploring a version of the game for Switch 2. Our goal was to take advantage of the newer hardware and offer an enhanced experience for players who wanted it. This work was never intended to affect compatibility with the original Switch.
However, we discovered that releasing on Switch 2 requires upgrading the game to a newer version of Unity. Ideally, we would upgrade both Switch versions at the same time to keep them fully compatible. The challenge is that the original Switch is already extremely tight on memory — something many of you have seen firsthand through recent crashes. We’ve made improvements in the latest patch, and we hope those are helping, but the platform still has very little headroom.
Upgrading Unity alone — even with no other changes — significantly increases memory usage across the board. Right now, that increase isn’t sustainable on Switch 1. Our focus is on continuing to optimize memory so the game can run more comfortably on the platform and eventually give us enough margin to perform the engine upgrade needed to restore cross-play.
Why did cross-play work before, and why did it break now?
The latest patch is the first time the game runs on two separate versions: one for Switch 1 and one for Switch 2. Up until now, both platforms were running the exact same build, which preserved compatibility — but also prevented us from offering enhanced features on Switch 2.

Performance Issues (September 29, 2025)
Hi @Announce (SW) players!
We have been monitoring performance issues on the Nintendo Switch, and we are hoping to optimize performance to make playing Hello Kitty Island Adventure a smoother, more enjoyable experience for everyone.
We are working to fix some performance and crashing issues in the near future. In the meantime, here are some things you can do to prevent common performance issues:
Start new sessions when resuming play (close game completely and launch again)
Don’t return to main menu and enter another game. Every time you want to start a new session, you should close all the way out again
The longer the play session is, the more likely you may crash. If you are noticing you are crashing after 30 amount of minutes, try to save your game a few minutes before, close, and reopen
If you have had your game session open for a long time and try to take a selfie/picture, it is more likely for your game to crash. If you have a picture objective for a quest and are worried your game will crash, we recommend saving and starting a new session (close game completely and launch again)
In the meantime, we thank you so much for your patience.

CU2 will bring players up to date with version 2.6!
This includes:
The Biggest Challenge main questline (and associated surprises 👀 ),
Two new visitors for Retsuko
Upgraded Mini-maps
Friendship Island Bestie Collection
New character furniture

Performance improvements
Various small bug fixes
Performance Degradation Announcement (May 22, 2025)
Hello everyone! We've been investigating performance degradation on Switch around the recent update (CU1) and have found two issues we will be addressing in the June CU2 Update.
An underlying graphics setting was improperly set, leading to less performant visuals being displayed
The resource stacking when players miss days is creating more strain than intended on framerate
In the mean time, we recommend players use best friends to help collect resources, especially in areas that are experiencing the worst frame drops.
Our safe release date for CU2 is at the end of June, but we hope that we can get accelerated approvals like we did for CU1 and release it earlier. We will keep you updated as we have more information! As a thank you for your patience, keep your eyes peeled for a Sunblink Mail today or tomorrow!
CU1 Announcement (February 20, 2025)“Friends, Furniture, and Frozen Peaks”
We’re currently working on Content Update 1 for Switch and PC! This FREE update will include highly requested QoL features like Furniture Stacking (which lets you place multiple items on tables, multiple items on mannequins, furniture on top of furniture, rugs on floors, and more) and Call Friend (so you can companion from anywhere), the expansions to Icy Peak (Blizzard Peak and Snowy Village), and lots of friend content, from bestie quests to character furniture sets.
For those familiar with the Apple Arcade version, this update will bring Switch/PC players up to parity with the 2.4 update, minus all second island content (aka no City Town).
Making Friendship Player-Friendlier
In an effort to address some confusing/frustrating UX around gifting friends, we are re-tuning friendship XP and gifts so that the number of hearts on a gift correlates with the amount of friendship and return gifts you receive. To enable this, we’ve made a few under the hood changes, including:
+1 bonus for ❤️❤️ gifts
+2 bonus for ❤️❤️❤️ gifts
Non-preferred tags each contribute a single point
Upgrades to some tags, including (common→uncommon), (common→uncommon), and (common→rare)
With these changes, two and three heart gifts will see a global increase in efficacy, which should help improve both mid and late game gifting, all while making the mechanic much simpler to understand. This resolves nearly all discrepancies where gifts of a lower heart value could potentially have more benefit to friendship.
This rebalance will go live first in the 2.4 Update on Arcade, (and therefore be part of CU1 for Switch/PC). We will continue to evaluate game balance going forward and make additional minor adjustments.
