Character Gift Boxes

Character Gift Boxes (often also only called "Character Boxes") are given to the player when they have reached the maximum friendship level with each of the Island Residents. Instead of their normal return gift, they will give the player a Character Gift Box! Rewards from Character Gift Boxes may be any of the following: Collectors Hats, Dye Pouches, Currency, and Materials.

In appearance, they look like an egg-shaped container instead of a box. They are vaguely similar to the capsules dispensed some kinds of toy and collectible vending machines.

How to Obtain

Gift boxes are mainly obtained by gifting Best Friends. They are received instead of the material that the character would have previously given as their return gift.

Unlike when raising friendship, the only factor that determines the Character Gift Box's size is the amount of hearts the given gift has. There are three possible Character Gift Box sizes: Small, Medium, and regular. (The "regular" size does not have its size named in the game. Instead, it is just called a "Character Box".)

The player can also receive a regular-sized Character Box when completing a Daily Quest given by that character. Before reaching Best Friends, their Daily Quests raise friendship instead.

Additionally, the player may receive a regular-sized Cinnamoroll Box from opening a Time Capsule, which is gifted by the Island Visitor Poron while she is visiting the island. A regular-sized Cinnamoroll Box is also gifted by the Island Visitor Milk while he is visiting the island.

How to open a Character Gift Box.

Character Gift Boxes must be opened in the inventory in order to obtain their contents. Boxes can be opened one at a time or all of one type at once. No matter which option is chosen, rewards are calculated the same way. A Character Box's size will determine the rewards given, including the quantities. Rewards include Collectors Hats, Dye Pouches, Currency, and Materials.

As a rule of thumb, a Box will include specific ranges of a character's regular rewards. For a full-size box this would be 8-10 of them, while materials, currencies, and dye pouches would be approximately 0-4 each.

If a player does not receive a specific character's Collectors Hat after opening a total of 100 regular-sized Boxes for that character, the player has a 100% chance of receiving a specific character's Collectors Hat when opening their 101st Box. This "hard pity" system does not require all Boxes to be opened at once and invisibly tracks what players receive from every regular-sized Box they open.

The exceptions to this are Kiki Boxes and Lala Boxes, which can also have a Legendary-rarity "Little Twin Stars' Trip" comic. For them, the hard pity system covers both the Collectors Hat and the Comic Book. Either reward resets their hard pity count, and, if triggered on the 101st Box, the hard pity system has an equal chance of giving either a Hat or a Comic.
