Multiplayer
Multiplayer allows for two players to play together. One player can invite the other to join the first player on the first player's island. The Multiplayer application in the
Tablet allows players to access the multiplayer functions, such as invite codes or joining another's game using a code. To unlock all Multiplayer functionality, the player should complete the "Small Gift Big Smile" quest and start the "Friends From Afar" quest.
The Official Discord
If you do not know anyone who plays the game in real life, you can still find others to play with. We recommend using the official Discord server for Hello Kitty Island Adventure, which is the only official community for the game.
Because of safety concerns, such as the wide range of ages that the game may appeal to, the official Discord server requires that players not share codes in the automatically available channels or through direct messages (DMs). Instead, a player joining the Discord needs to use the "Unlock Multiplayer" channel to unlock the "Multiplayer" role, which allows access to the multiplayer channels.
Each platform has a separate set of multiplayer channels locked behind the Multiplayer role, such as a "Multiplayer Quests" (#multiplayer-quests) channel, which is used to find others to play with, and also trading channels.
Multiplayer Basics
How to Host
To host a multiplayer session, you should:
- Open the
Phone.
- Select the
Multiplayer application.
- Copy the code and give it to the player who you want to join you.
Here is some further information about how codes work:
- Codes are temporary. They can change if you reopen the
Multiplayer application, and they expire within a few minutes even if you leave the application open.
- The "Send Code" option gives a long invitation that includes a large image. It is not always the best way to share your code.
- To copy only the code, you can use the rectangular icon in a circle to the right of the "Send Code" option.
- If you have sent the code to someone, do not close the
Multiplayer application until the other player is connecting. Sometimes, closing the menu can also cause the code to change.
How to Join
There are two ways to pull up the screen where you can enter a friend's multiplayer code.
- Open the
Phone, select the
Multiplayer application, and click "Join Friend".
- On the game's title screen, click the "Join Friend" button.
Once you have entered the code you received from another player, you should be taken to a loading screen while you wait for the other player's island to load.

Troubleshooting
Sometimes, joining another player's island or having someone join your island may fail. Some possible causes are:
- One player has not updated their game, so the versions do not match. Both players should check the platform's app or game store for updates.
- At least one player has a poor connection, or their connection is throttled by something like a firewall.
- At least one of the players is minimizing the game app on their phone or tablet, causing the connection to break. For example, a player may be minimizing the game on their mobile device to go chat in Discord. The player should always keep the game open and either use a separate device or a split screen other apps or websites.
- The code changed or expired, causing the connection to fail.
- The players are on different game platforms. Cross-platform multiplayer is not supported.
If you continue to experience issues, some things to try include:
- Make sure your device time is set automatically and is the correct time. Out-of-sync times disable multiplayer.
- Caution: Changing your time manually can cause severe issues in your game due to how the game relies on new days to generate content. The developers cannot fix saves broken by date manipulation.
- Completely close the game and restart it.
- Completely turn off your device and restart it.
- Use a different internet connection, like using WiFi instead of mobile data.

Apple Arcade
players.
- Go to Settings → Screen Time → Content and Privacy Restrictions → Content Restrictions → Game Center, and make sure it is set to "Allow With Everyone".
- Sign out of and back into of Game Center from your device's settings.
- Enable your iCloud if it is not.

Nintendo Switch
players.
- Make sure you have a current Nintendo Switch Online subscription.
To make sure online play is enabled in your game, from the title screen, click the gear-shaped icon to access the Settings menu. Then, click Permissions, and make sure "Allow Online" is turned on.
Playing Together
Basics
Only one multiplayer guest can visit the host's island at a time.
Multiplayer guests have access to the same tools and stamina as the multiplayer host. That includes Cooking Station repairs and upgrades. The visiting player does retain access to their own inventory and everything in it, except for certain special items, like Strawberry Crates and quest-specific items, which are locked to the island owner's save.
The guest cannot have an Island Resident as a companion, but certain Companion Abilities can be shared if the host has it active:
Guests cannot begin or complete most quests, including both the host's and their own quests, but they can provide assistance to the host while the host is working on a quest. (Multiplayer assistance for quests is never required outside of Multiplayer Quests.)
Also, the host and guest can work together to complete Challenge Courses and Mini Games. Guests cannot earn trophy pieces from Challenge Courses, but they can earn the same Mini Game prizes as the host from games where both players collect items. ( Gem Match,
Seapony Racing, and
Crane Craze do not share prizes.)
When playing together, two players can raise their Multiplayer Friendship Level with each other by completing tasks together. (It does not matter who is hosting.) These allow the player to unlock new emotes and multiplayer abilities. Multiplayer emotes and abilities are only available when two players are playing together and have a sufficiently high level with each other.
Some levels also reward Friendship Beads. A player can access the Friendship Tasks list either through the
Multiplayer application menu or the small
multiplayer icon to the right of the mini-map.
Rewards must be claimed by accessing the Multiplayer Friendship Levels menu while playing with the friend whom the rewards were earned with.
It is considered rude for guests to collect materials without asking permission from the host. Unless the guest and host are at friendship level 15 with each other — which unlocks the "Shared Pickup" ability — any materials collected by the guest are not made available to the host. (However, certain special items, such as Strawberry Crates, only go into the host's inventory if the guest attempts to collect them.) Event currency items cannot be collected by guests, but some collectable currencies will go to both host and guest with the "Shared Pickup" ability.
Gifting Items
Most furniture and most non-clothing items) can be gifted between players as soon as the level 1 Multiplayer Friendship task (taking
selfies together) is completed.
Recipes for most food can be traded at level 1 without the giver losing their copy of the recipe.
Clothing gifting is not possible until the level 13 tasks are completed (which takes at least 12 weeks). Depending on the platform, there may or may not be additional restrictions on undyeable Legendary event clothing.
- On
Apple Arcade (as of version 2.5), all event clothes can be gifted (after the completion of level 13 tasks).
- On
PC (Steam) and
Nintendo Switch, only dyeable event clothes can be gifted (after the completion of level 13 tasks).
The following items can never be gifted:

While an Island Bouquet or
Friendship Bouquet is not giftable, it can be used on another player's island unless it is a Deluxe version, which can only be used on the holder's own island. However, the
Friendship Blossom cannot be used on another person's island.
Known Bug

The ability to use Friendship Bouquets while visiting another Player's Island in Multiplayer may be a bug, so it may be removed in future updates.
Similarly, the Lucky Star can be used on another person's island — but only if they have completed the "Lucky Stars" quest.
Multiplayer Friendship Levels
When a pair of players are in a multiplayer session together, they can perform tasks to raise their Multiplayer Friendship Level together. Friendship levels provide access to specific benefits, with an additional benefit added at every level, that can only be accessed while both players are playing together. Achieving specific levels also reward Friendship Beads.
Players can form as many Multiplayer Friendships as they like. Each new pair of friends starts with level 1 tasks. Abilities unlocked with one player do not carry over to friendships with other players.
Friendship Tasks
Friendship Tasks are tasks that can be completed with a friend to raise your Multiplayer Friendship Level. The rewards for a given level are granted upon completion of all tasks for a specific Friendship Level. You can do 3 tasks in each new level achieved every week. If a level has 3 tasks, you can complete it and start on a new level during the same week, which refreshes your 3 task limit. If you reach the 3 task limit and still have tasks remaining in that level, the limit will refresh during Monday's reset.
Task limits only apply to a particular pair of friends, so playing with multiple players separately during the same week is possible. The Multiplayer Friendship Level can be different for each pair of friends. A player does not have a multiplayer level on their own.
For tasks that require "collecting" items, the items must be added to the task by one or both players. The items are removed from the player's inventory and are used up to complete the task. If one player adds all the items, the other player must still click to accept the task's completion.
For tasks that require completing a Challenge Course (or Mini Game), both players must collect at least one of the Athlete Coins (or Mini Game item) during a successful run. More advanced tiers of Challenge Courses do fulfill tasks for lower tiers, such as if you complete a Gold-level course when it requires only Bronze.
The player can access the task list for multiplayer Friendship Levels either through the Friendship Levels button in the Multiplayer application menu or by clicking the small
multiplayer icon to the right of the mini-map.
Again, rewards earned through Multiplayer must be claimed by accessing the Multiplayer Friendship Levels menu while playing with the friend whom the rewards were earned with.

Friendship Level Rewards
Level rewards come after completing the tasks for that level, not upon reaching it. Each Friendship Bead must be manually collected from the "Friendship Tasks" page after completing the tasks for a level that rewards one. Ability and emote rewards are only available while a pair of friends are in a multiplayer session together. Each emote is actually a pair of emotes, so that a pair of friends can mirror each other's actions.

Multiplayer Friendship Abilities
These are further details on the abilities that can be unlocked.
Image | Name | Information |
---|---|---|
![]() |
Basic Gifting | Unlocked after doing the level 1 task. This allows for a pair of friends to gift each other most furniture items, as well as other non-clothing items. Certain items (like clothing stands) are not able to be gifted. Friends should stand near each other and use the gift box button, like they would if gifting an Island Resident. |
![]() |
Friend Cabin | Unlocked after completing all level 3 tasks. This allows a pair of friends to invite each other to move into Visitor Cabins on their islands. |
![]() |
Stamina Drain Reduction | Unlocked after completing all level 5 tasks. As long as you are near your friend, your stamina bars will decrease more slowly than they would otherwise. This ability does require friends to be within a relatively short distance of each other to work.
The second level of stamina drain reduction is unlocked after completing all level 17 tasks and further decreases the rate at which stamina is used while near your friend. |
![]() |
Stamina Boost | Unlocked after completing all level 7 tasks. When near each other, friends can interact with each other using the ![]() |
![]() |
Teleport to Friend | Unlocked after completing all level 9 tasks. When accessing the map, your friend becomes another Fast Travel location. You can click on their icon on the map, or you can select "Your Friend" at the top of the Fast Travel location list. It will place you exactly where your friend currently is. |
![]() |
Auto-Pickup | Unlocked after completing all level 10 tasks. As long as two friends are playing together, they automatically grab any nearby item without having to click on it. This works at any distance and even inside areas where Companion Abilities do not usually work, like in the Red Hot Rampage mini game. However, it does not work while riding the mine carts in the Crystal Caves. |
![]() |
Clothing Gifting | Unlocked after completing all level 13 tasks. With this ability, friends can gift each other most clothing, including event clothing, with some exceptions. Character Hats, the Gudetama Outfit, the Golden Crown, and Character Sweaters cannot be gifted. |
![]() |
Shared-Pickup | Unlocked after completing all level 15 tasks. One of a pair of friends collecting an item causes the other friend to also receive it. This only applies to basic materials picked up from around the world, including Game Tickets, the magma blooms picked up while playing Red Hot Rampage, and items obtained after watering Gift Flowers and Rainfall Flowers. At this time, this ability does apply to event currency materials as well.
This ability does not apply to comics, music discs, Strawberry Crates, or any materials obtained through alternate methods, such as fishing, winning mini games, or opening chests. If TOPHAT's companion ability triggers for the host, the guest will also get the doubled material that the host gets. |
![]() |
Speed Boost | Unlocked after completing all level 16 tasks. As long as you are near your friend, you will walk faster than normal. This ability does require friends to be within a relatively short distance of each other to work. |
